IFS Training Centre Details

Training Period – IFS Training Centre
Talking about the duration of the training period, generally one year and nine months. The first training will be at the IFS Training Centre / Academy, LBSNAA in Mussoorie. After that, the movement is for three months, and one will be assigned to the designation of Foreign service probationer or Officer trainee. Later, after completion of three months of training, Foreign service Probationers are moved to the Foreign Service Institute, which is present at JNU in New Delhi.
Later, they are sent to the Foreign Services Institute in Delhi to focus on the specific training in different disciplines. The course involves lectures and details on the various wings of the Government. Further, they will receive on-the-job training. Then, they will be attached to a Division of the Ministry of External Affairs for a period of six months.
Compulsory Foreign Language Details
In the IFS Training Centre, once you are done with the CFL, you must give the ability test conducted by the School of Foreign Languages and the Ministry of Defence of India to check the language preparations. Once they clear the test with flying colors, they are assigned to the Indian Foreign Service. Further, a candidate is confirmed as the IFS officer they are designated as Secondary Secretary in any of the divisions: Administration, Cultural, Commerce, Consular, Economic as a consultant at an Indian Consulate for the tenure of 3 years.
