UPSC aka Union Public Service Commission is the most known exam for Indian students. It is also considered to be the toughest exam in our country too. And why not? This exam is the procedure to recruit eligible candidates for posts like IAS, IFS, etc. However, check out the following article. We are going to tell you about all the UPSC posts further here. Among you who recently heard about may think about it. So, before digging deep, let’s check out what UPSC is. Well, UPSC is a central recruiting agency. They recruit the best people for civil service jobs and train them. And, for this, they conduct an exam every year known as the UPSC exam.  This exam is also for Indian Civil Service like IAS posts. The UPSC jobs are divided into two groups- Group A and Group B. But of course, the exam is not a matter of joke. And by now you may have understood it. Now have a look at what civil service jobs fall under UPSC.

UPSC Posts That Aspirants Need to Know

As I said before, there are different types of Civil Service jobs/posts here. Specifically, there are 23 types of posts under the UPSC examination. But, the most popular posts are IAS, IPS, IRS, and IFS posts. Although the allotment of the candidates depends on their CSE rankings. Now, other than the previously mentioned two groups, there is All India Civil Services.

  • IAS aka Indian Administration Service.

  • IFS (Indian Foreign Service)
  • IRS (Indian Revenue Service)
  •  IRTS (Indian Railway Traffic Service)
  • RPF (Railway Protection Force)
  • ITS (Indian Trade Service)
  • IAAS (Indian Audit and Accounts Service)
  • IIS (Indian Information Service)

All India Civil Service

  • IAS or, Indian Administrative Service: Not to mention IAS post is the most popular UPSC civil service job of all. Also, it is the most crucial post for both Indian and state govt. Naturally, most of the candidates choose this post. But remember, it is a position with heavy responsibilities. The cadre will be in charge of the formulation and implementation of Govt. policies. Here is the additional info. IAS Probationers will have their training at LBSNAA in Mussoorie.
  • IPS or, Indian Police Service: It is the second most popular post among the three Indian civil service jobs. You can guess from the post name. These IPS officers are the in-charge of senior positions in police service. Similarly, they can be senior officers in RAW, CBI, IB, etc. Their training center is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.
  • IFoS or, Indian Foreign Service: The third most popular post is IFoS. The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change supervise it. The highest position holder will be the DG of Forests. He/She will also be the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests. But it has an interesting part though. The cadre will get to work with organizations like FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization).

 Well, these are most popular All India Civil Services. Major part of the candidates aim at those posts. So, competition is really tough here.

Civil Service Jobs – Group “A” (UPSC Posts)

Go through the article further. You can find the basic info about Group-A Indian civil service jobs. We split them in two parts to make it easy. Let’s have a look.

Part – 1

  • IFS, IRS, and IPoS: Firstly, IFS is one of the most popular UPSC posts in Group A. IFS cadres take care of India’s foreign affairs. They can be ambassadors or Foreign Secretary too. There are posts like High Commissioners as well. Also, IFS officers can be the Permanent Representative of India in the UN. Secondly, the IRS is under the Ministry of Finance. And they look after the collection of direct and indirect taxes. Lastly, IPoS officers are the highest grade officers in India post. They manage all services of India Post. It includes E-commerce, banking, postal services, etc. All of these fall under their supervision.
  • IRAS, IRPS, IRTS, and RPF: All of these four civil service jobs are related to Indian Railway. Firstly, IRAS cadres manage and maintain accounts and finance. Secondly, IRPS officers handle the human resources of the Indian Railway. Thirdly, IRTS cadres take care of revenue generation and commercial affairs. Lastly, RPF officers look after the security of the Indian railway. This includes the security of passengers, property, and assets of the Railway.
  • IAAS, ICAS, and ICFS: IAAS is under CAG. Officers take care of financial auditing of Central and State Govt. After that ICAS officers are the Controller General of Accounts. This UPSC job falls under the Ministry of Finance. Thereafter, here come ICFS officers. They provide accounting and financial services. It is for the Indian Post and Telecommunicating Department.

Part – 2

  • ITS, ICLS, and IIS: Firstly, ITS officers look after the international trade and commerce of India. Ministry of Commerce manages these civil service jobs. Then, it’s ICLS. It is managed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. These officers are intensely trained for taking care of India’s corporate sector. On the other hand, IIS officers look after the Indian Govt.’s media wing. However, you can call it a link between the public and Govt.  And, also IIS is under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
  • IOFS, IDES, and IDAS: All these three civil service jobs are under the surveillance of the Ministry of Defense. IOFS officers manage ordnance factories. Basically, these factories produce defense equipment and arms. IDES officers manage cantonment and lands that belong to Defense foundation. While IDAS officers manage and audit defense accounts. Likewise, they serve BRO, DRDO, etc.

Civil Service Jobs – Group “B” (UPSC Posts)

  • Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Services: Although it is a Group B civil service, it falls under the Ministry of Defence. This cadre provides the basic support to the Indian Armed Force. The Defence Secretary supervises it.
  • DANICS & DANIPS: For your info, DANICS stands for Delhi, Andaman, and Nicobar Islands Civil Services. It takes care of the administrative affairs of Delhi and the Union territories of India. On the other hand, DANIPS is responsible for the police services of those areas.
  • Ponicherry Civil Service and Police Service: Well, UPSC conducts an exam for both of the positions also.

What is the top post in UPSC hierarchy?
