However, her file was kept on hold for a while before her appointment. Her disability did not fit in any of the listed criteria for the service. This led to her filing a complaint with CAT, about which we talked about earlier. The officer believes that her father has been the biggest supporter in her life. Moreover, her father has gone to great lengths to fight for the injustice against his daughter. Her father believes that it was not just Ira who was waiting for justice, many others deserved an answer. Ira Singhal had multiple corporate job options. However, she felt discriminated against by a very prominent govt institution. This motivated her towards seeking legal help. The officer made a great legal presence during her struggle.
However, she did not stop her UPSC preparation. She again appeared for the exam in the year 2011. She wrote the exam quite a few times. At the same time, she won her case after four years. Hence, in 2014 she was allotted the Customs service. But just as she was about to settle for this service, she was declared the UPSC Topper in 2014.
