To begin with, the Karnataka Public Service Commission directs the to enroll Grade A and B officials in the Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS). Generally, KPSC recruits officers for various administrative posts at the district and state levels. Initially, they play the role of Sub Divisional Magistrate and the on promotion as Additional District Magistrates and afterwards on advancement to IAS. Furthermore, They take up different key situations at the regional level as Deputy Commissioners and proportionate IAS framework occupations at the state level. In Karnataka Administrative Service Exam, there are two sections KPSC FDA and KPSC SDA.

KPSC FDA Exam is for First Division Assistant and KPSC SDA is for Second Division Assistant

History

To begin with, the Karnataka state was serving without having any recruitment agency. But in 1921, the government laid the foundation of the Central Recruitment Board. Following 5 years of freedom, the Public Service Commission was constituted on 18 May 1951, Under the arrangements of the Constitution of India and Public Service Commission Regulations 1950.

Parent department: Union Public Service Commission 

Karnataka Administrative Services Exam is conducted  to recruit the officials for the different positions in Grade A and Grade B.

Eligibility Criteria  – KAS Exam

One important thing a candidate keeps in mind before going through the criteria of is in which category he/she belongs to. Because the government relaxation is provided for those candidates who belong to a particular reserved category. One thing to notice below rules applies for both KPSC( Karnataka Public Service Commission )FDA Exam and SDA Exam.

Furthermore, to write the KPSC exam/ Karnataka Administrative Services Exam you are required to have the below :

  1. To begin with your Academic Qualification.
  2. Then next is Age Limit.
  3. Lastly the Number of Attempts. 

Besides, all the candidates who are writing the KPSC KAS (Karnataka Administrative Services Exam) must be a citizen of India. Candidates from different states of the country can write the exam but it is required for them to clear the Kannada language examination. 

Academic Qualification

In particular to write KAS Exam, you need a Graduate degree, the minimum age limit is 21 years and the maximum age limit is 35 years. Generally, there will be 5 attempts to clear the exam for the General Category. But for the people who belong to the categories like SC/ST/OBC, it has relaxed rules. 

Furthermore according to the stated rules applicants are only eligible for Karnataka Administrative Services Exam if : 

  • In the first place, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree awarded by University.
  • Or similarly any Master’s degree from a recognized University.
  • However, you can have any other equivalent qualification. 

Age limit

Candidates who are going to write the KAS Exam must be at least 21 years old and the maximum age of the candidates cannot be more than 35 years. For General Merit candidates as mentioned earlier, the relaxation will be provided in KAS Exam for reserved categories.

Number of Attempts

  • Generally, for the candidates who belong to General Merit, a maximum of 5 attempts is allowed.
  • Likewise for the candidates belonging to the OBC category. They have 2 extra attempts so a total of 7 attempts are allowed.
  • And lastly for those candidates who fall under SC/ST/Cat-1. An unlimited number of attempts are allowed in the KAS exam but one should keep in mind about the age limit which is mentioned above.

Later even after being eligible after passing all the above criteria official KPSC(Karnataka Public Service Commission) recruitment sends a notification as some particular posts are notified with physical fitness. Therefore no candidate is eligible if he/she fails to clear the physical test. 

Pattern – KAS Exam

In the first place understand the pattern of KAS exam is conducted in three stages : 

  • Stage 1 Preliminary Exam – It contains 2 papers of objective type. Both papers carry 200 marks each with 0.25 negative marking and time for the exam is 2 hours
  • Stage 2 Mains – It contains 9 papers of essay/descriptive type. Therefore making a total of 1750 marks. and time provided for the exam is 3 hours. 
  • Stage 3 – Lastly, it’s Interview
The syllabus of KAS (Karnataka Administrative Services) KPSC Exam contains three stages - Preliminary, Main Exam, and lastly interview.

Preliminary Exam – KPSC FDA – SDA Exam

Paper – 1 – KAS Exam

  • Indian History: One should have a good understanding of topics such as Cultural, Social, Political, and Economic aspects and special knowledge on Karnataka state.
  • Current Affairs: Good knowledge National also International importance.
  • Political and Indian Economy: have a good understanding of concepts such as the Indian Political System, Economic Reforms, Rural Development, and Social initiatives.

Paper – 2  – KAS Exam

  • General Studies: Different schemes of the state government and also the current affairs of the state.
  • General Science and Technology: Broad Understanding and knowledge of concepts such as contemporary issues, developments, and implications.
  • Environment and Ecology: Good knowledge of general issues such as climate change, ecology, and health without any subject specialization.
  • General and Mental Ability: One should have a deep knowledge of topics such as basic numeracy skills, Logical reasoning skills, and analytical skills, Comprehension skills, and good Data Interpretation skills as well.

Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 is of marks 200 and time provides is 2 hours.
