Introduction

In the first place, UPSC ESE Engineering Services Examination is also called as Indian Engineering Services (IES). Further, this exam is conducted by the UPSC every year to recruit for specialized positions in the various government departments. It is also considered one of the toughest exams. Then, it recruits people for the Group A and Group B officers at the technical positions for the Government of India. Besides, it is conducted to recruit candidates for engineering positions for the various departments working under India’s Government. It is conducted for the four branches of Engineering.

  1. Civil Engineering
  2. Mechanical Engineering
  3. Electrical Engineering
  4. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

Then, like every other exam, this exam also includes three main stages, namely.

  1. IES Preliminary
  2. IES Mains
  3. Lastly, the Personality Test

One needs to clear all the stages of the exam. Besides, there is a physical or medical test once you clear the personality test.

Key Points

  1. In the first place, the Preliminary Exam will be an Objective type exam. On the other hand, the Mains Exam will be a Pen and Paper-based.
  2. Then, the Question paper will only be in the English medium.
  3. For every wrong answer, 1/3rd of the marks will be deducted, then no marks will be deducted if no response for the question
  4. Besides, if multiple options are selected, it will be considered an incorrect attempt, and 1/3 rd of the marks given to the question will be deducted.

Exam Eligibility

Further, let us know the criteria for the UPSC ESE exam. So, like every other exam, this exam also comes with some exam criteria. Nationality

  • Student must be a citizen of India, Or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan or Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962.
  • Then, a student of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, BurmaZambia, Malawi and Ethiopia or Vietnam, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, intending to stay in India.

ESE Age Limit

  1. Further, the UPSC ESE age limit is between 21 years to 30 years.

Physical Criteria

  1. Further, one must be physically fit for the admission according to the mentioned rules by the authority.

Educational Qualification

  • In the first place, a degree in Engineering from any recognised university.
  • Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers
  • Further, passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II & III or Sections A & B of the Aeronautical Society of India. 
  • Then, secured a degree or diploma in Engineering from such foreign University college which is recognised in India.
  • Lastly, passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers.

UPSC ESE Age Limit relaxation

  • In the first place, for the SC/ST upto five years
  • Then, for the OBC, upto three years and for Jammu and Kashmir domicile during upto five years.
  • Further, for Deaf/Mute and Orthopedically handicapped person, upto ten years.
  • Besides, for the ECOs/SSCOs served for 5 years in Military services upto five years.

  4. Later, fill all details like name, address, age, etc. in the Part I registration.

  6. Then, pay the exam fee, either online mode or offline mode.
