Along with the privilege of getting their own car, IAS / IPS Officers also enjoy other perks such as;

  • IAS officers get bungalows or residential units based on their ranks, pay scale, and seniority. 
  • IAS Officer / Deputy Collector / DM Cars are provided. 
  • The government does not provide guns but allows bodyguards for safety.
  • Officers get free or highly subsidized electricity, water, gas, and telephone connections.
  • Government guesthouses give discounts to officials on their official or nonofficial trips.
  • Government allots 2-year study leave. Also, the government pays for the courses. Moreover, officers can also opt for foreign university courses.
  • IAS Officers enjoy total job security. The removal process of officials is not easy. End of employment is possible after inquiries and investigations about their misconduct.
  • IAS officers get a pension for life after their retirement.
  • The retired officer is given a chance of being appointed at commissions or tribunals.

IAS Officer Car

Many different aspects are considered than a Car is allocated. They differ in areas, the rank of the Officer, availability, and many more. A Deputy collector in the rural and remote parts of the country will get an Ambassador Car. Ambassador Car is no longer in production. However, it is allotted to the officers if it is available.

IPS / IAS Officer Car cannot use it for personal use. Furthermore, if they wish to use the cars for personal use they have to take permission and also pay fee charges for the same. The light beacon on the top of the cars of the IAS / IPS Officer is banned. Hence, the VIPs and dignitaries usually get a national flag to place on the hood of the car. They get stickers to put on the Cars and uniquely designed number plates. For eg., there will be a written Deputy Collector / District Magistrate. This helps to separate the cars of government officials.

Details about DM Car

A District Magistrate (DM) and IAS officers with higher ranks get luxurious cars like a Toyota Fortuner or Innova too. IPS officer Cars are different. The government allocates cars to officials based on their titles. Sometimes even the same ranked officer ends up getting a different car in another state. However, if an officer has to move from one location to another, he or she is generally provided with a driver. Also, if the officer is of a high rank, a convoy will always follow them.  The more years one service the government more perks they enjoy throughout their service.

IAS Officers in rural districts get ambassador cars and IPS officers posted to rural districts get Mahindra Bolero. This generally depends on the ranks of the officers.

Certainly, the service has to be top-notch along with positive changes to achieve more. The Officers start from firstly the district level. Then secondly they move to the state level. Based on the 7th Pay Commission, the basic salary of an IAS Officer is Rs 56,100. Also, apart from this, an officer is given several other allowances, including Travel Allowance and Dearness Allowance. Reports affirm that the total pay of an IAS officer is more than Rs 1 million per month.

So, the District Collector is the highest Officer of Revenue department in the district. A District Magistrate (DM), is an IAS officer who is the senior-most executive magistrate. Also, he is the chief in charge of the general management of a district in India.

Is becoming an IAS Officer easy?

All exams can be cracked with the right approach and plan. The Civil Services Exam has a very long time selection process. It takes more than one year to become a Civil servant or IAS Officer. This does not mean that the exam cannot be cleared. Many people have done it and so can YOU!
