Introduction

In the first place, the UPSC conducts the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS). Further, it is to recruit people for the Commissioned Officers in the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Indian Air Force Academy.

CDS Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

In the first place, to write the CDS exam, one must be a citizen of India. Or students must be a subject of either Nepal or Bhutan citizens of Indian origin who have migrated and shifted permanently to India. Or Tibetan refugees settled in India permanently before January 1, 1962.

Age Limit

Further, the age limit t write the exam is 19 years to 22 years for the Indian Naval Academy. Then, for Indian Military Academy19 years to 24 years and Air Force Academy is 19 years to 23 years. Besides, one must also know if there is relaxation for any categories.

Then, with education, it is necessary for one to complete a degree from any recognized university.

Application Form

Now let us understand how to apply for the CDS exam.

  1. In the first place, one must go through the official website and search for the relevant option link, click on the link.
  2. Further, click on the new registration link. You will receive registration number and password to your mail-id.
  3. Then, one must log in using credentials and start filling the application form.
  4. It is important for one to fill the form correctly without making any mistakes. As it will be tough correct once the form is submitted.
  5. Later, one must upload recent photograph and scanned signature. Further, one must choose exam centre.
  6. Further, one must take a look at the application formbefore submitting the form. Then, proceed to pay the exam fees. One can pay fee either online or by offline mode.
  7. Lastly, after successful sexam fee payment save a soft copy of the application form along with the fee payment receipt for future use.

Exam Fee

As mentioned earlier, you can pay the exam fee either online or offline. So, online you can pay through a Debit/ Credit Card or SBI Netbanking. Further, you can pay cash at any SBI branch offline mode. However, one must download the challan and submit it to the bank to pay through cash. Documents Required

  • Any Valid ID proof ( Adhaar card/ Voter ID/ PAN card/Driving license/ Passport)

Exam Pattern – Combined Defence Services Examination

Then, the CDS exam consists of two stages. Later, they are Written Exams and Interviews for intelligence and personality test.

Further, the written test consists of 3 sections English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. So then, the written paper for OTA consists of 2 sections – English and General Knowledge. 

Then, for the offline mode of the paper, students will be given with OMR sheet wherein they must color the appropriate response. Besides, questions will be objective type, and the question paper is available in two formats: Hindi and English.

Marking Scheme of the Combined Defence Services Examination

Later, for the CDS for IMA, INA, AFA. Further, the maximum number of marks given is 100 and one mark for the correct answer. -0.33 negative marking for the wrong answer for all the papers. Namely English, GK, and Mathematics.

Further, for the OTA, the maximum mark given is 100. Therefore, one mark is given for the correct answer, and the wrong answer, -0.33 marks will be deducted.

Interview Round

Lastly, the interview is conducted in two stages. Stage 1 is an OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating) Test that contains Picture Perception and Description Test. Then, if you clear stage 1, you will be called for stage 2 of the interview round. Further, in stage 2, you will be tested on Group Testing Officer Tasks, Interview, Conference, and Psychology Tests.
