UPSC chairman and member details
Listed above are the current members apart from the UPSC chairman. The chairman of the commission is a professor. His term started on the 7th of August, 2020. His term comes to an end on the 4th of April, 2022. Hence, he will serve as the chairman for two years only. Further, the member Bhim Sain Bassi is an IPS officer. He started his membership on the 31st of May, 2016. His term will end on the 19th of February 2021. Thirdly, Ajit Bhonsle is an Air Marshal. Hence, he belongs to the Indian Air Force. His term started on 21st February 2017. Moreover, it will end on 14th February 2022. The fourth member Sujata Mehta serves in the Indian Foreign Service. Her term started on 29th February 2017. However, it will end on 29th March 2022.
Manoj Soni, a member of UPSC is an academician. His term started on 28th June 2017 and it ends on 27th June 2023. Furthermore, the next three members are IAS officers. Smita Nagaraj started her term on the 1st of December 2017. Moreover, her term ends on 21st September 2023. Furthermore, M Satyavathy started the term on 9th April 2018. The term ends on 15th May 2023. Bharath Bhushan Vyas a member of the current UPSC panel is an IAS officer. His term started on 13th December 2018. Moreover, it ends on 14 November 2022.
T.C.A. Anant is a member of the Indian Economic Service. His term started on 14th January 2019. However, it ends on 2nd January 2023. Lastly, there is Rajiv Choubey. He is an IAS officer who started his term on 1st February 2019. However, his term ends on 24th January 2024.
UPSC chairman/president list since inception
The first UPSC chairman was Sir Ross Baker. His term began in October 1926 and ended in August 1932. Moreover, he was the first UPSC president. Sir David Petrie was the second chairman of the commission. His term started in August 1932 and ended in 1936. Sir Eyre Gorden was the third chairman of UPSC. His term began in the year 1937 and ended in the year 1942. Further, Sir F.W. Robertson became the fourth chairman and served between 1942 to 1947. H.K. Kripalani became the next chairman. Moreover, he was the first Indian chairman of UPSC. However, all chairmen before him were British. H.K. Kripalani served between 1st April 1947 to 13th January 1949. This was during Independence. H.K. Kripalani was followed by R.N. Banerjee. Moreover, his term began on the 14th of January 1949 and lasted up to the 9th of May 1955.
Furthermore, N Govindarajan served as the UPSC chairman between 10th May 1955 to 9th December 1955. V.S. Hejmadi served from 10th December 1955 to 9th December 1961. Further, B.N. Jha was the UPSC chairman from 11th December 1961 to 22nd February 1967. K.R. Damle was the tenth president of the commission. He served between 18th April 1967 to 2nd March 1971. These are the first ten UPSC president on the list. Till now all were male chairmen. Furthermore, Rose Millian Bathew became the first woman UPSC chairman. She served between 1992 to 1996. By now, there has been a total of 31 chairmen. The present/current UPSC chairman is the 31st on the UPSC chairman list.
Eligibility Criteria to become the present/current UPSC president
Firstly, the UPSC chairman and its members are appointed by the President of India. Usually, the chairman is a civil servant with 10 plus years of experience in public administration at the state or central level. The UPSC is examined by a secretariat. The secretariat is led by a secretary. Moreover, there are two additional secretaries as well. The secretariat also has some Joint/Deputy Secretaries and other assistance staff members. Each member of the UPSC holds their office for a term of 6 years or until he attains the age of 65 years. Whichever is earlier. As a UPSC member, you can submit your resignation at any time. You can submit your resignation to the President of India at any time.
Another criteria for removal is misbehavior. If any member’s misbehavior is proven by the supreme court, only then the member will be removed. Another removal criteria are bankruptcy or holding any office of profit outside his duties. Moreover, if the president of Indian thinks that you are unfit to be a member of the commission by the illness of mind or body, you can be easily removed.
