Further, talking about the SVPNPA, it stands for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel national police academy. It is established on the year 15 September 1948, and it is the Civil Service Training Institute. The IPS training centre is present in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

The IPS training centre is headed by a Director, an IPS officer of Director General of Police. Then, assisted by 2 Joint Directors of the Inspector General of Police,  3 Deputy Directors of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, and 20 Assistant Directors. Besides, Assisted Directors include 8 IPS/SPS officers of the Superintendent of Police from state cadres, a Forensic Scientist, a Judicial Service Officer, a specialist each in Training Methodology, Computers, and Wireless. Further, the sanctioned strength of the faculty includes readers in Behavioural Sciences, readers in Teaching Methodology, medical officers, junior scientific officers.

IPS Officer Training – SVPNPA

Let us take a look into IPS officer training. Once you clear the exam, your training will start. Further, there are four parts to the training, they are:

1. To begin with, Foundation Course for the period of 3 months in LBSNAA, Mussoorie
2. Phase I training for 11 months at SVPNPA, Hyderabad.
3. District Practical Training for 6 months at the respective cadre
4. Lastly, Phase II training for 1 month Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad

To begin with, the foundation course will happen in LBSNAA, Mussoorie, with all other civil servants. Later, they move on to the phase I part of the training. It is also called the Basic Course. It is conducted at the SVPNPA.

Objectives of the Foundation Course

As already mentioned above, after the foundation course, the second phase of the training is done in two phases. The first phase of the training will happen in Hyderabad. Further, IPS officers must also do a certain amount of training in a district of their cadre between the 2 phases of training at the IPS academy. Later, for the second training phase, IPS trainees will join the SVPNPA, Hyderabad. It is called a Basic Training Course; it will be there for a period of 11 months. They will study indoor, outdoor, and qualifying subjects.

1. To develop Professional, organizational, and community skills.
2. Further to develop a capacity through the orientation,  sensitization, and competency.
3. To understand professional knowledge and understanding.
4. Then, to develop overall personality like self-dicipline, habits, soft skills, norms, values, etc.
5. Lastly, to know human values, right attitudes and appropriate behaviour in professional and in personal life.

During their training at SVPNPA, OTs are attached to different airforce units, army, navy, Central Armed Police Forces. Then, it is done to familiarise them with the service environment.

Police Academy Training – Second Phase

After completing the first phase of the training, there will be the second phase of training. The second phase of the training is about enhancing knowledge about the state cadre. Further, the training happens at State Police Academies for the duration of 3 weeks, and that will also include their state language. Then, it includes practical training components; there, they will handle police stations. Besides, talking about the marks total marks of Indoor subjects is 1200, outdoor subjects are 600, and the director’s assessment marks are 400. So, the total will be 2200.
