WBCS Exam Pattern

WBCS Mains Pattern
The exam has six compulsory papers in the mains examination. Hence, there is no option whether to write the subject or no. These are mandatory in nature. Anyone appearing for the exam cannot avoid even a single one of them. The mains exam is both objective and subjective in nature. On the other hand, UPSC mains are only subjective in nature. In addition to the six compulsory papers, you have to write two optional papers as well. You can choose a suitable optional subject from a list. Paper one and two are of a conventional nature. WBPSC WBCS Prelims syllabus

First paper is therefore a regional language paper. However, the second paper is an English Language paper. Even this paper has the same topics as mentioned for the regional language paper.
