APPSC also is known as Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission conducts exams every year to recruit civil servants. AP PSC is under the State Public Service Commission of Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission

It is APPSC full form. APPSC recruits candidates for various important positions. Some of them are Deputy Collector, Dy SP, etc.  This exam is divided into three parts. They are Prelims, Mains, and Interview round just like UPSC. So, it has some exam criteria that candidates should know. Luckily, we sort that out for you. Check the article further to learn more.

Eligibility Criteria for AP PSC 

Like most of the exam it also has some important criteria. Aspirants must fulfill the following conditions.

  • The maximum age for appearance is 42 years.
  • The minimum age for appearance is 18 years.
  • There are some relaxations in age criteria. But only SC/ST/ OBCs/ Ex-servicemen are eligible for it.
  • Also, for previously mentioned relaxations, candidates must be a domicile of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Candidates have to be Indian Citizens.
  • They must have a degree from a recognized Central or State University. But an equivalent qualification will do the work too.
  • Some of you are appearing for posts like Dy SP, District Fire Officer. Then you have to fulfill their physical requirements also.

Exam Pattern of APPSC

I mentioned this before. The whole exam procedure is divided into three parts. They are Prelims, Mains, and Interview rounds. In this part, we gathered the exam and marks pattern, etc. in one place for you. Therefore, have a look at it.

APPSC Prelims Exam

Just like UPSC, Prelims of this exam is also a screening test. Candidates can appear in Mains only after passing this exam. Now, check this out.

  • There will two papers for the Prelims round – Paper I and Paper-II. Paper I is General Studies while Paper II is General Aptitude.
  • Both of the question paper consists of 120 marks each.
  • Also, these are the objective type question paper. So, students have to choose between multiple options.
  • Similarly, students will get 120 minutes for each paper.
  • Obviously, it has a negative marking. 1/3 of the mark will be deducted for each wrong question. So, be careful while answering.
  • It is an offline exam procedure. Both Paper I and II will take place on the same day.

Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (AP PSC) is responsible for the exam. They set Prelims question in such way that only best can pass it.

Mains Exam

  • After passing the Prelims, candidates have to appear in the Mains exam.
  • There are a total of seven papers for this exam. Two of them are qualifying papers. And the other five papers will be counted for ranking.
  • The duration of each paper is 180 minutes. Also, remember that these are descriptive/ essay type papers. The maximum number will be 150.
  • Telugu and English are two qualifying papers. General candidates have to obtain at least 40% in the exam. As for OBC candidates, it is 35%. Therefore SC/ ST/PH has to obtain 30% in qualifying papers.
  • However, candidates can answer the question in Telugu/ English/ Urdu. But, it has to the one which they stated in the online application.

Interview Round

Prelims Syllabus and Topics for Mains Papers

Although, most of you know it. But we have gathered Prelims and Mains syllabus for new aspirants. Now without further delay, check that out.

Prelims Syllabus

As for Prelims, there are two papers. First is the syllabus for Paper I which is General Studies. Candidates have to read History, Geography, and Constitution. The syllabus also has Justice and International Relations. As for Economy, it includes Andhra Pradesh economy planning along with Indian Economy. Above all, each of these topics consist 30 marks.

 Then there comes the syllabus for General Aptitude. It has some important topics like General Mental Ability and Administrative abilities. It also includes psychological abilities which are important. These topics bear 60 marks. After that, there are Science and Technology. It has 30 marks. Lastly, the syllabus has current affairs. It includes National, International, and Regional important events. This topic bears 30 marks. Hence, it is pretty much everything about APPSC Prelims Syllabus. APPSC Mains Topics

  1. For Paper 1, candidates have to write essays. It can be about Regional, National, and International important issues. It can be about contemporary themes as well.
  2. In Paper 2, candidates need to read about History and Geography. However, these are based in India and Andhra Pradesh. It also includes culture.
  3. Paper 3 is mainly about Polity, Constitution, and Governance. You have to read about Laws and Ethics for this paper too.
  4. Paper 4 is all about the Economy. Aspirants need to know about the economical development of India and Andhra Pradesh.
  5. Finally, the Paper 5 syllabus. It has Science, Technology, and Environmental issues.

How to Prepare for the APPSC Exam

Well, behind every success there is a strategy. So, aspirants should study strategically. This way, they can cover up the syllabus within a short period. And it is a significant thing to do at first. At first, here are some tips for Prelims preparation.

For Prelims

  • Different candidates have different backgrounds. If your study-background is science then go for Paper-II (Prelims). Go through the topics within the least amount of time. After that focus on Current Affairs. When it is done, go for the rest topics.
  • On the contrary, some students have arts study-background. They should go for Paper I (Prelims) first. Try to prepare topics for at least 15 days. Thereafter, read Current Affairs and other topics.
  • The last 1 years or 6 months before the exam will be enough. So, prepare them very well. Also don’t skip anything about it.

Tips for Mains

  • However, Mains is a bit tougher than Prelims. And, also it is a descriptive type. So, students have to read every topic in a detailed way.
  • At first, you can start with History and Polity. These subjects are easy to complete in a short time. Then go for subjects like Economy and planning. Newspaper reading will help with that. While reading, keep practicing on writing speed.
  • The latest constitutional issues and laws are important for the exam. Along with them, landmark judgments are also important. So, don’t forget to revise everything. Likewise, the Schemes of Govt. of India and Andhra Pradesh are crucial. Go through them along with policies and programs. Otherwise, you may face difficulties in the exam. Lastly, keep revising. It will reduce the chance of forgetting in the exam.

Should aspirants need to make study plans?

Of course, they need. Not only for this exam but others as well. A well planned study always helps to get through.

Are UPSC and AP PSC the same?

No, they are not the same. UPSC is a nationwide exam while this one is a statewide exam. Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission held the exam to recruit civil servants.
